Die Stadtmusikanten von Bangalore

Ähnlichkeiten mit bekannten deutschen Märchen sind rein zufällig. Es weiß aber auch irgendwie niemand was diese Statue zeigen oder darstellen soll. Eine Beschreibung fehlt vor Ort leider auch. Da war wohl etwas Geld in einem Budget übrig.

This statue looks very funny, because it reminds me of a German fairytale. In the German story it was other animals. Unfortunately, nobody knows why it had been put up. And a board with such ideas is missing. Maybe some budget had to be cleared.

God's work

Das ist das prachtvolle Regierungsgebäude in Bangalore. Wirklich beeindruckend. Viele Leute finden die Arbeit, die innen geleistet wird, nicht so prachtvoll.

Die Überschrift ist: Regierungsarbeit ist Gottes Werk.

The government Palace in Bangalore. The sight is great. Some people think the work on the inside is maybe less impressive.

Vogelkäfig

Eine lustige Geschichte. Ich habe vor allen Fenstern hier Metallgitter. Natürlich frage ich mich, was das soll. Und die logische Antwort für mich war diese:

Die Gitter sind bestimmt um zu verhindern, dass Vögel in die Wohnung fliegen.

Genau genommen ist das Quatsch. Es ist ein simpler Einbruchschutz. Irgendwie war diese Option für mich nicht so präsent.

Quite confusing for me was that thing with the windows. Many times there is no glass, but a hole in the wall. But then there are grills put in front of that.

My assumption was that it might be to protect birds from flying inside and get hurt. 

Apparently it's a means to prevent burglary.

That option was not so clear for me, however.

Nischen-Markt

In diesem kleinen Hotel (synonym für kleines Restaurant ohne Übernachtungsmöglochkeiten) haben wir uns mit leckeren Sachen den Bauch voll geschlagen. Der Weg hinein war abenteuerlich. Das war noch etwas komplizierter als in einen vollgestopften öffentlichen Bus zu steigen.

In this small hotel we had awesome food. It's one of the many places that are not over branded and successful because of its good quality instead.
Although entering it was tougher than mounting a completely over filled public bus.

Die Kuh hat Hunger

Diese Kuh war hungrig. Und sie hat auf sehr penetrante Art gebettelt, bis ihr der junge Mann etwas von seinem Essen gegeben hat.
Da können wir nur Spatzen und Tauben dagegen halten.

This view was hungry. She was circling the place and molesting the people so much. The young man had a pity with her and have her some of his food.
In Germany we only have pigeons and sparrows. What a laugh compared to this.

Juice mal anders

Ein Straßenstand, jede Menge Gemüse und daraus kommt ein leckerer Saft. Lasst die Finger von Gooseberry, das ist eklig sauer. Aber die roten Karotten vorne im Bild sind lecker.

Another street stand, a whole lot of vegetables and a nice refreshing break. Leave the goose berries, they are horribly sour. The red carrots, that you get in winter in India are very tasty.

Straßenimpression

Indien ist ein überbevölkertes Land. Gerade in den Metropolen fällt das besonders auf. Man kommt um die vielen obdachlosen Menschen nicht herum und an manchen Stellen herrscht wildes Gedränge. Das ist eine typische Straßenszene in Delhi.

India is an overcrowded country. Especially in the metropolitan cities you are very aware of the huge number of people. Unfortunately, also the homeless can not be overlooked. Here is one normal scene of what is happening in a market Street in Delhi.

Kabelsalat

Manchmal ist Pragmatismus einfach fehl am Platz. Es kommt tatsächlich immer wieder zu Bränden, weil die Kabel in der Stadt völlig über trieben und ohne große Sicherheitskonzepte verlegt, erweitert und umgebaut werden.

It might look funny, how all these cables are arranged above the streets. But unfortunately this is a very unsafe way of construction. Once in a while there are fires, because this whole set up lacks the concept that would ensure safety along with availability.

Keep your Mutton warm

Was macht man mit der Ziege, wenn sie friert? Man zieht ihr einen Pullover an! Was macht die Ziege, wenn die Hunger hat? Sie knabbert an einer Wand!

Vor allem in Stadtteilen mit vorherrschend muslimischer Bevölkerung gibt es viele dieser Monsterziegen. Manche sind größer als Ponys.

When it's cold and it is winter, then you should keep your mutton warm. Why not make the goat wear a jumper? Proper nutrition is there, as long as your goat likes to feed from blank walls.

These goats you will find a lot in the areas predominantly inhabited by Muslims. The goats grow into enormous sizes. Sometimes they easily overgrow a pony.

Spice market

Im Gewürzmarkt von Delhi haben wir uns in diesen tollen Winkel verlaufen. Es geht drei Stockwerke nach oben und dann hat man einen grandisosen Ausblick über Old Delhi. Der Stadtkern mit vielen Gebäuden aus der Zeit der Mughalherrscher ist ein faszinierender Ort, an dem man leicht die Zeit vergisst.

Lost in the spice market of Delhi. We found ourselves on top of a three-floor building with a grand view over Old Delhi. While strolling in between all these fantastic fragrances one can easily lose track of time.

Die Welt von oben

Ein kleiner Ausblick aus dem Flugzeug auf dem Rückweg nach Bengaluru. So ein Damm von oben und +100% Sättigung sieht schon ganz nett aus.

Rickschah

Eine Runde in der Rickschah durch das vollgestopfte Delhi. Der gute Fahrer hat sich nach harten Verhandlungen in unsere Herzen gestalkt. Wir sind mit ihm durch super-enge Gassen gefahren, in die hätte ich mich nicht mal zu Fuß hineingewagt. Dieser Markt ist aber etwas ganz besonderes und sehr sehenswert.

This man was very persistent and finally, after long discussions, he agreed to drive us around in Delhis market area, Chandini Chowk. The small alleys are so tiny, that I would have not dared to walk in, but he drove with the rickshaw between the shops and people in the street, as if it would be nothing.

Das mit der Straße

"Hey, ich muss die Straßenmarkierung machen."
"Ja, und?"
"Na, da is'n Riesenloch am Rand. Was soll ich bloß machen?"
"Weiß auch nicht. Mal doch einfach um das Loch rum!"

"Well, there's a huge hole in the street. What can I do?"
"How do I know? Why don't you paint around it?"

Paan

Eine indische Besonderheit ist der Abschluss des Essens. Nach einem üppigen Dinner voller würziger Speisen, gönnt man sich gerne mal ein Sweet Paan. Das ist ein Blatt mit einem intensiven Geschmack, das mit verschiedenen stark aromatischen Dingen gestopft wird. Unter anderem Gulkand, das ist ein Rosenblüten-Zuckerbrei. Es ist sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig, aber nach einer kurzen Zeit kaum mehr weg zu denken.

Something really unusual for me was the way, that a heavy dinner can end in India. Instead of a nice dessert, people sometimes have a sweet paan. That is a leave with a distinct taste, that will be filled with aromatic spices and a sweet preparation of rose petals and sugar, named Gulkand. The intense taste is overwhelming, but after a short time you grow to like it very much.

Murphy's law

Was schief gehen kann, geht schief. Sehr amüsant ist es natürlich, wenn aus einem harmlosen Cole Slaw (Kohlsalat) ein Gesetz wird (law).

Quite amusing how simple things can change into serious matters, just by reordering the letters. We didn't order it anyways.

Achtung Affen

"Pass auf! Die Affen sind aggressiv!", war das Letzte was ich gehört habe, bevor mich drei, der irgendwie aus der Nähe betrachtet gar nicht so kleinen Makaken anspringen und kreischen. Ja, das war eine Ladung Adrenalin. Wer hätte gedacht, dass man sie vorher um Erlaubnis fragen muss.

"Be careful, these monkeys are aggressive!" was the last thing I heard before three makaks jump on me. Up close they seem much bigger and more dangerous. Within seconds more and more came running from every direction. Who would have thought, that they hate paparazzis so much?

Der Taj

Der Taj Mahal. Das weltbekannte Wahrzeichen Indiens für Liebe und Widmung weit über den Tod hinaus. Es ist ein Wahrzeichen, das in der muslimischen Mughal-Ära errichtet wurde.

Klugschißmütze: die Minarette sind leicht nach außen geneigt, so dass sie im Falle eines Erdbebens nicht auf das Mausoleum fallen. (@Jonathan)

Love eternally that overpowers death, is the message of the Taj Mahal, this unique Indian sight. It is only one of many sights in India, but by far the most popular one. And basically the remains of the Mughal era.

Know-it-all: The minarets are slightly reclining outwards, so that in case of an earthquake they won't fall on the mausoleum.

Freeze

Ein Langarmshirt. Eine Fleecejacke. Eine Windjacke. Und das alles auch noch in Kombination. Trotzdem hilft es nicht gegen die fiesen fünf Grad am Morgen. Ich vermisse den tropischen Winter und ich möchte das kontinentale Klima abschaffen.

This is finally the absolute proof that I'm totally accustomed to the tropic south Indian climate. With three layers of warm clothes I'm still freezing in the five degree Celsius morning air.

Delhi welcome

Ein dunstiges Willkommen in Delhi. In knappen zwei Stunden hüpft man mal eben aus dem Süden in den kalten Norden. Auf einmal wieder in der Fremde. Die Leute sprechen plötzlich Hindi und das Essen ist anders, die Kleidung sieht anders aus und ja... Es ist kalt!

This was a hazy welcome in Delhi. Although the trip was short from the far south to the north, I feel like emerged in a strange new world. Everything is different. The language, the food, the way people dress and not to mention... It's cold!

viele viele bunte Sachen

Wo Kinderträume wahr werden... Es ist ein kleiner Ort, der etwa 50km von Bengaluru entfernt ist. Dort werden seit Jahrzehnten bunte Holzspielzeuge handgearbeitet. Als wir an den Fabriken vorbei gekommen sind, waren erschreckend viele Kinder auf dem Gelände unterwegs. In den Geschäften gibt es alles nur Denkbare an dekorativen Objekten und Spielzeug.

In a small town, approximately 50km out of Bengaluru, there are many shops and vendors selling wooden toys in bright colors. When we passed by the work shops there were an awful lot of kids on the premises. In the shops you can find all sorts of decorative items and toys.
