Dr. Ferdinand Kittel ist in Karnataka einer der berühmtesten Deutschen. Er hat eine Bibelübersetzung in die lokale Sprache Kannada geleistet. Das Denkmal würdigt ihn in Kannada und in Deutsch.
Neben ihm ist Max Müller ein vielfach bekannter Name. Er war Indologe uns Sanskritgelehrter, der in einem Atemzug mit Goethe genannt wird, da es hier das Max-Müller-Goethe-Institut gibt.

Two famous Germans are very popular here in Bangalore. One is Max Müller. He was an indologist and studied sanskrit. And then Dr. Ferdinand Kittel. He translated the Bible into the local language Kannada. Below is a picture of a statue, erected in his honor.

Rev. Fr. Kittel is more famous in Karantaka for bringing out the first ever Kannada - English dictionary with about 70,000 words. He also wrote a book on Kannada grammar.
