Ich hatte bisher stark den Eindruck, dass Indien ein sehr friedliches Land ist. Mittlerweile habe ich einige Dinge mitbekommen, die die Situation relativieren.
Heute wird Gandhi gefeiert. Sein friedlicher Widerstand hat Geschichte gemacht. Aber das ist nicht unbedingt der Königsweg für alle Inder. Rassistische Übergriffe in Delhi kommen immer wieder vor. In Kerala gibt es regelmäßig starke Konflikte zwischen den Religionsgemeinschaften, so dass uns von einem Besuch eines hinduistischen Tempels abgeraten wurde.
Unseren Wochenendtrip nach Tamil Nadu haben wir abgesagt, weil leider nicht sicher ist, ob Busse aus Karnataka unbeschadet dorthin Reisen können. Grund ist die Verurteilung einer Politikerin aus Tamil Nadu in Bangalore. Wut und Frustration entladen sich leider manchmal unberechenbar.

Today we remember Gandhi. A great son of India, who made history and linked the idea of peaceful resistance with the nation.
But not all is so peaceful here. Recently I read about racism in Delhi, where foreigners especially from African origin face violent attacks on a frequent basis.
When I visited Kerala people advised me not to visit a temple, because the air between Hindus, Christians, Moslems and Jews is very tense there, and provocation is no good idea.
Just now we canceled our trip to Tamil Nadu. Colleagues advised us against traveling in Karnataka busses to the neighboring state after a ten year prison sentence for a tamil politician by a court in Karnataka. Last week busses were stopped and the situation is tense.
